"Nothing can spoil the Cleave, were the granite, piled up like giant's castles, crowns the gorge, and is spread all the way to the stream bellow. On the east side is the Nutcracker Rock, a logan, whose name tells its popular use, and scattered nutshells show the place, though, owing to the growth of the bracken, it has somewhat lost its powers."
