[Two things interested me today. One was that when old Devon ladies come into the dairy in Chagford they occasionally ask for "a bid'a grid'ee" (according to my friend behind the counter). This is 'a bit of gritty", referring to the Taw Valley mature cheddar (a really nice cheese!) that has a slight gritty texture owing I think to salt granules in it.
The other thing I noticed was while in Minehead this weekend there was an amusement center called 'Merlin's Magic City', with a cartoon of a purple clad star bedecked and bearded old wizard. Interesting how old folklore continues into the present day. Looking across the channel I could see the Welsh mountains where I have always believed Merlin still lies sleeping in his cave...]
