[This seems to be a typically confused entry by Hope. The legend to which he reffers is about an island on the Thames, not in Somerset, when you look at other online texts (can't find Dean Stanley's).
I will include this post anyway, just in case I am wrong. Dont think I am though, not really a Westcountry legend - the confusion may have resulted from Joseph supposedly coming to Glastonbury and planting his staff, where a thorn tree then grew...]
